While Europe was invading the Middle East during the first Crusade, the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers was home to the Kingdom of Mapungubwe.
Located on the border between Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, the kingdom traded widely with nations from across the continent and even the Arab peninsula.
