A performance of verve, heart and ultimately wonderful defensive organisation from Senegal produced a 2-0 defeat of Uruguay that leaves the west Africans favourite to top Group A ahead of Team GB. This was a victory against the head as Senegal played with 10 men for three-quarters of the match. It also produced a first half of drama and no little skill, most notably the two goals from Moussa Konaté, bringing a tea-time Wembley crowd to its feet in noisy appreciation.
